The view of the Berlin Holocaust Memorial by Peter Eisenmann from above is greatly reminiscent of New York from the top of the Empire State Building, including, of course, the fragment of New York which could still be seen prior to 2001. This parallelism reminds us of the altered perspective gained after historic events have occurred: in this picture, as there, we appear to be viewing a collection of Menhirs. New York was built primarily by Jewish inhabitants, albeit in a style which in part barely differed from the menacing art of Albert Speer.
