Within the columns, an interior space is created which is simultaneously an exterior space. This transposition of the idea of a shell comes from the basic principle of a church within a church as in for instance Saint Peter’s in Rome or the Einsiedeln Abbey which both feature a cellar-like, inaccessible interior space. |
